Environmental success is ‘Brewing’ for Caerphilly-based manufacturer

5/7/2016

Bedwas based printer and manufacturer Purple Mustard Ltd., has recently been named as winner of the coveted ‘Refreshingly Responsible’ Supplier Award at the inaugural Adnams PLC Annual Supplier Conference.

The criteria for this award examined key areas such as the company’s energy and waste reduction initiatives and recycling practices, in addition to site specific measures and policies that had been adopted in order to reduce the overall carbon footprint of the business.

Purple Mustard Ltd.’s award submission competed against entries from a variety of both large and small businesses from across Europe and was selected as the winner by an experienced judging panel comprising of members of the Adnams internal Sustainability Team and Peter Metcalfe of Adapt. Based at Norwich Research Park (NRP), Adapt promotes enterprising low carbon concerns and works closely with the Norwich Business School and the School of Environmental Sciences.

Richard Carter, responsible for Finance and Sustainability at Adnams commented “We were really impressed with Purple Mustard and their approach to environmental and sustainability matters, especially their eco journey towards zero to landfill. They clearly demonstrated that they have a very strong focus on waste yet recognise and talk easily about their broader environmental impacts. Their holistic viewpoint was particularly important and seeing the objectives naturally embedded into their business was reassuring.”

Each of the award categories reflected the Adnams core values, with the ‘Refreshingly Responsible’ Award, won by Purple Mustard, directly reflecting their commitment to minimising their environmental impact and working with their suppliers to build sustainable growth.

Richard Millward, Commercial Director at Purple Mustard Ltd. added, “We are thrilled to receive the Adnams ‘Refreshingly Responsible’ Award in recognition of our commitment to the environment. As a company, we always strive to be as efficient and environmentally responsible as we can be and are constantly reviewing our practices to see where further improvements can be made. Having gained ISO9001: 2008 accreditation, undergone the extended Sedex Member Ethical Trade Audit and recently achieved ‘Zero to Landfill’ status; we are now focused on our next goal of achieving the ISO14001: 2016 accreditation. This award from Adnams means a lot to the entire team here at Purple Mustard, as we all play a part of the journey towards a greener future for the company.’

Welsh manufacturer flies the flag for ethical trading

23/10/2015

As the UK’s largest fully vertical manufacturer of sublimated products, Purple Mustard Ltd supplies a diverse range of custom printed products to a variety of customers across Europe and beyond.

Bedwas based Purple Mustard currently employs over thirty five employees at its 40,000 sq. ft. site and has been a Sedex member since August 2012. On the 18th & 19th November 2015, Purple Mustard demonstrated their commitment to Sedex and underwent a voluntary Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA). The detailed audit examines four key areas including; Labour Policies, Health & Safety Performance, Environmental Performance and Business Ethics. The feedback from the stringent audit of the Welsh factory was extremely positive and its findings will now be published on the Sedex website; allowing customers worldwide to carry out due diligence quickly and efficiently online.

The scope of factors that influence global businesses in their procurement decisions extends far beyond the quality and price of a product or service; it increasingly includes the ethical, corporate responsibility and sustainability practices of the business in question too. As such, memberships to associations such as Sedex can open doors to new customers and will inevitably become an important tool for companies looking to grow their business.

Richard Millward, Commercial Director at Purple Mustard Ltd added;

“As a proud Sedex Member, we are delighted with the findings of our recent Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit. The feedback that we received highlights our achievements in relation to the implementation of a number of key processes and procedures; ultimately creating the positive, safe and legally compliant work environment currently enjoyed by our team.

2015 has been a big year for Purple Mustard, having achieved ISO 9001 – 2008 certification in June, and now undertaking the Sedex audit. As a company, we are committed to continuous improvement and the audit findings have also been useful in helping us to identify opportunities for further beneficial changes that we can make as a business. I believe that our ISO 9001 – 2008 and Sedex member status combined with the report findings will serve as useful resources for both existing and prospective customers, giving them the peace of mind that they are working with an ethical and responsible supplier.”
